Simon --
When you tell people about your support for proportional representation, how do they respond? We hear "it's too complicated" a lot.
Proportional systems are the most common type of electoral systems in the world. And they are based on a really simple principle: every vote must count towards the make up of Parliament.
Our report An Electoral System for All gives a straight-forward primer on proportional representation and tackles head-on the myths about it. We looked at other countries, surveyed a wide range of electoral systems and got down into the details about what a proportional system would mean for Canada. If you have friends who are unsure about how a proportional system could build a stronger democracy in Canada, our primer will do a great job at bringing them up to speed.
One of the most exciting tidbits we found is that a proportional voting system could increase voter turnout by 5 to 7%. That's as at least 1.3 million additional voters -- and additional voices -- heard in our democracy.
When voter turnout has been decreasing for decades, this is big news. We think this shows that a lot of people would find a proportional system clearer and more engaging than our current system.
Check out An Electoral System for All and let us know what you think.
With the Liberal’s promise that the 2015 election will be the last under First Past the Post, the time for change is finally here.
As Ed said in a recent Globe and Mail op-ed, “Electoral reform is not about what works for any particular party or parties in general. It’s about the public interest, what works for voters, what makes our democracy stronger.”
Thank you so much for being part of this campaign.

- On contre-argumente
